Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Startup Haven
At Startup Haven, we are deeply committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). These values are not just words on a page; they are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that fostering a diverse and inclusive startup community is not only the right thing to do but also essential for innovation and success in the entrepreneurial world.
Our Commitment to Diversity
Startup Haven is dedicated to promoting diversity in entrepreneurship. We recognize that diversity encompasses a broad spectrum of backgrounds, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, and socioeconomic status. We are committed to creating a community where every founder, regardless of their background, feels welcome and valued.
Our Approach to Equity
Equity is a fundamental principle in our mission. We understand that systemic barriers and inequalities exist within the startup ecosystem, and we are determined to address them. Our goal is to level the playing field so that every founder has an equitable opportunity to succeed. This means providing resources, mentorship, and support to those who have been traditionally underrepresented in entrepreneurship.
Embracing Inclusion
Inclusion is not just a goal; it’s our culture. We actively promote an inclusive environment where all voices are heard, respected, and celebrated. We believe that diverse perspectives lead to better decision-making and more innovative solutions. At Startup Haven, we are committed to fostering a sense of belonging for everyone in our community.
Our DEI Initiatives
1. Scholarship Program
In 2023, Startup Haven launched a scholarship program. By offering membership scholarships to underrecognized founders, recipients can receive the support the Startup Haven network and programs can offer.
2. Diverse Representation
We are actively working to increase the representation of underrepresented groups in our community, including founders, mentors, and investors. We seek partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to DEI such as StartOut, Seattle Female Founders and Funders, and Seattle Angel Conference.
3. Mentorship and Support
We offer mentorship programs that connect founders with experienced mentors from diverse backgrounds. Our goal is to provide guidance and support tailored to individual needs.
4. Feedback and Improvement
We welcome feedback from our community members on our DEI efforts. We are committed to continually improving our practices and policies based on this feedback.
