May 2017, Special Guest: Nick Huzar

Last week’s event was big!   Not only did we have a capacity crowd, but a wait list of 20 poor souls who didn't even make it in! (We're working on fixing that.) It was a spectacular event with views from the top of the tallest building in the Northwest.   Our special guest for the night was Nick Huzar, founder and CEO of Offer-Up.  Offer-Up [...]

We’re taking a break on event recaps….

Phew!  It takes more effort than you'd think to write 50 blog posts per year.  Not to worry... they'll be back... just let us catch our breath.  In the mean time, if you're here to see what happens at these Startup Haven events then I think you'll find plenty of evidence in these posts to prove that our events are worth your time. If these posts [...]

Seattle Poker 2.0 December 2015

It was a BIG night -- really big hands, really big pot and some really bad beats.  Three four of a kinds in one night is unheard of -- t's rare to have even one.  And two of the we're quad jacks.  I always hear the stories of bad beats when folks come over to rebuy.  My ears were bleeding more than usual this time.  [...]

New Year Poker 2.0 in Seattle

2016 is off to a fantastic start with a capacity crowd and the biggest pot ever for a regular monthly event. We also had a solid turnout of women entrepreneurs and investors, representing ~13% of the players. Let's grow that number. The Glympse office space is truly awesome and a great layout for big poker games.  Glypmse CEO, Bryan Trussel, was kind to host us [...]

November 2015 Seattle Poker 2.0 Recap

November Poker 2.0 was a smashing success! As always, lots of great connections happening all night, all around the ro om.  And, as usual, the room and food were awesome thanks to the Columbia Tower Club hosting us in the big room in the sky. But what wasn't usual was the record setting pot -- the second biggest pot in the ten year history of Startup [...]

Seattle, October 2014 Recap

Last night was a very special Poker 2.0.  It was my first night as a Co-Host to this incredible community event, and it was also one for the record books in terms of gender diversity.  Bob has been trying to get more women to Poker 2.0 for ages.  With two new female co-hosts in the founding city, and a new zeal for closing the gender [...]

Seattle, July 2014 Recap

I was so sure that we'd loose a bunch of people this month because of the virtual shutdown of I-90 that I actually removed one of the tables before the event started.  But we defied the odds with a capacity crowd and so I had to have the fifth table brought back out.  Huzzah! Thanks to inspiration from our awesome Poker 2.0 organizers in San Diego, [...]

Why should women founders come to Poker 2.0?

This is a question I've thought a lot about almost since the very beginning of Startup Poker 2.0 more than eight years ago.  I have heard it from many, many women. To be clear, the essence of the question is not "why should I come play a game with other founders?"  The essence of the question I hear is "why should I come play a [...]

Seattle, May 2014 Recap

The views were inspiring from the 75th floor of the Columbia Tower Club.  I really love this venue for poker.   The food was inspiring too -- seriously... the the Columbia Tower Club builds the best cheese plates I've ever seen.  The salmon lasagna and the shrimp something-or-other were top notch as well.  If you're interested in checking out the sweet deal the Club put [...]

Seattle, March 2014 Recap

We were back at the Tower Club this month.  The views from the 75th floor of the Columbia Tower never cease to awe.  The food is certainly a great upgrade as well. We were over subscribed on four tables and the rebuys were on the high end of aggressive... so we ended up with a pot on the high end too.  And since all three [...]
